Through life we all experience different emotions, and learn to respond in the best way possible to ensure our survival. This response is governed by a part of our brain called the subconscious mind.
The subconscious will create feelings and responses in us to ensure our survival. Lets say for example as a child you were bitten by a snake, the subconscious would then store this memory to protect you in the future if you were to see a snake. So what is so wrong with this you may ask?
The problem comes when you are walking down a street and pass a toy shop, and as you look in the window you see a toy snake. Your subconscious will still invoke the same fear reaction, which in this case is not appropriate in an adult.
So if we now take this model and apply it to eating and weight gain, we can see that often the reason we eat things that we are not meant to, e.g. that last bar of chocolate that call to us from the kitchen cupboard, is not because we are hungry, but we have an earlier emotional response thrown up by the subconscious mind.
A Hypnotherapist will help you through altered state of consciousness induce a deep physical relaxation, which then enables the therapist to communicate with the unconsciousness mind, and change these emotional responses to food.
It is important to know that at all times the patient is safe, and that at any point he or she is in control.
The sessions last an hour and run over three months with one session a month.
